The stars of Nordic Sleigh Rides are the majestic horses that pull the sleighs. The horses are treated with great care and love. They are more than happy to take you on a sleigh ride and look forward to a nice scratch on the muzzle when you arrive. Meet the teams!

Gus

Claus

Gus and Claus These handsome Belgian sorrel geldings are half-brothers and have worked as a team their entire lives. They are the longest working team at Nordic Sleigh Rides and are the smaller of our Belgian teams. They each weight 2,300 pounds and stand 18 hands tall at the shoulder (that’s 6 feet!).

Atlas

Apollo

Atlas and Apollo This perfectly matched half-brother team of Belgian sorrel geldings are a favorite for parades because of their flashy matched stockings and snappy foot movements. They’ve performed in Las Vegas, Nevada for the National Finals Rodeo, in Calgary, Canada for the Calgary Stampede and have been in the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California! They weigh 2,600 pounds each and stand 18.5 hands tall at the shoulder.

Winnie

Remi

Winchester and Remington ("Winnie" and "Remi") Don’t let the smaller size surprise you, this half-brother team of Percherons have done it all. They were bred and trained by the Amish and have proudly been in parades as well as helped with plowing, haying, harvesting, baby-sitting, logging and running errands. They love getting treats so watch your pockets when you say “hi”! They weight 2,100 pounds each and stand 17.5 hands tall at the shoulder.

Clyde

Emily

Clyde and Emily Clyde is our smallest team member but don’t tell him—he thinks he’s as big as the Belgians! He’s a chestnut Halflinger, weighs 1,000 pounds and stands 14 hands tall at the shoulder. Halflingers originated in Austria and were bred as a saddle and driving horses that could sure-footedly carry the Austrian royal family safely into the Alps.
